Memories and Identities: Proceedings of the Second Conference of the Impact of Italians in South Australia
Edited by Desmond O'Connor
Year of publication: 2004
ISBN: 0 9585962 7 1
RRP: $30.00
This is a volume that tells us much about South Australia's Italians, their children and grandchildren, and the part that they have played, and continue to play, in the life of the State: in business, agriculture, the arts, education and health care, and as Italian regional communities that have their own special story to tell.
Memories and Identities, the product of a conference held in 2003, provides the opportunity for experts to show us where South Australia's Italians have come from (what both written and oral history tell us of their origins and early struggles), what values they hold and what needs they have today, and what issues are being confronted by the accomplished young Italian-Australian professionals who have their own special feelings and concerns about their identity and heritage.
Here is a book that will be of interest not only to Australians of Italian background but to everyone who wants to know much more about Italians and their impact on South Australia especially during the last fifty years.
The book includes a CD of several musical items performed at the conference.
DESMOND O'CONNOR is Professor of Italian, Head of the Department of Languages and Deputy Head of the School of Humanities at Flinders University.
