Edited by Margaret Baker and Diana Glenn

Year of publication: 2000
ISBN: 0 958 5962 3 9

RRP: $AUS 29.95

This volume brings together some of the many papers offered at the Dante Colloquia, begun in 1982 by Mary Dwyer and continued, with Diana Modesto as joint coordinator, at regular intervals over the following two decades. The Colloquia have been a meeting place for academics but have also involved the participation of students who have brought a passionate interest to the field. The volume contains seventeen essays, as well as a bibliography and a full programme of Dante Colloquia in Australia from 1982 to 1999.

Margaret Baker retired in 1997 as Senior Lecturer in Italian at the Flinders University of South Australia, and is now Honorary Visiting Scholar at that University. Although her research interests and publications have been in seventeenth-century and modern Italian narrative, she has remained in touch with the tradition of Italianliterary history and has celebrated this continuum in papers given at two of the Australian Dante Colloquia.

Diana Glenn is Senior Lecturer in Italian at Flinders University. Her areas of expertise include eighteenth-century literary historiography and textual exegesis in Dante studies; the role and significance of women in DanteÕs Commedia; Italian Australian literature and modern narrative.
