The contributions to this volume discuss new aspects of Australian labour history. These essays reflect on Australian labour's unique constellation of institutions, organisations and culture, identifying what makes Australian society and its working traditions different from those of other countries. Chpaters are grouped into themes including culture, gener and Australian workers; organised labour and political culture; working class communities; Australian egalitarianism -- reality or myth; and alternative working class experiences. A concluding section includes perspectives on writing labour history from some of Australia's foremost labour historians.
